Southern Africa
Faced by extremely varied and episodic economic growth, low levels of investment, poor governance and weak infrastructure, there is little disagreement that the growth challenge faced by African countries is daunting. Increased trade and further integration in to global markets has been prescribed as a solution to higher economic growth. However, trade for the sake of trade would amount to nought, if it did not support the overall development of a nation. Therefore sustainable development should be the end goal of trade liberalization. Recognizing this, TKN Southern Africa aims to identify policy options available to African countries to enable them advance their sustainable development interests in the trade context.
